Judges' Biographies

Gaye Brockett — Futurity

Hi! My name is Gaye Brockett; my kennel name is Whyme. It is my pleasure to be your judge for the Futurity at the 2009 BCCA National Specialty.

I was born and raised in Endicott, WA where I currently reside. I have worked as a licensed Veterinary Technician for the last 35 years. I currently work in an Emergency Clinic in Spokane, Washington. I am currently serving as past president of the Washington State Veterinary Technician Association. I live with 9 Bearded Collies, 2 Whippets, 1 Cardigan Welsh Corgi and 3 cats.

I have shown and bred several breeds of dogs over the past 30 plus years. I started in purebred dogs in 1974 with a Shetland Sheepdog, putting titles in Obedience on several. I got my first Whippet in 1982 and have finished several in the breed ring, agility and in lure coursing, and I bred and or owned 7 champions. I got my first Cardigan Welsh Corgi in 1992, and have finished several in the breed ring, both my own and for friends. I got my first German Wirehair Pointer in 1994 and have finished several in the breed ring for myself and friends.

I got my first Bearded Collie in 1985 one month before the 1985 National in Olympia, where I walked in the ring for the first time with a Beardie. I bred my first litter in 1988, out of which 3 became AKC Champions and two who became CKC Champions also. I have bred 12 litters with multiple AKC, CKC, International Champions from those litters.

I have bred, owned and handled two Best Puppy in Specialty, a Best Veteran In Specialty, a Best In Sweepstakes at a specialty and a Runner-up to Best In Sweepstakes. I have had a top ten dog in the breed standings for 3 years mostly owner handled. I have had several Herding Instinct tested dogs and also have competed in Rally and obedience.

I have judged the NWBCCof PS regional specialty sweepstakes. Although Beardies remain my primary love and interest, I judged the regional specialty sweeps for the Oregon German Wirehair Pointer Club. I have also worked to encourage junior handlers, both in AKC events, and 4‑H. I have also judged numerous fun matches in my area over the years.

I look forward to judging this year’s futurity.
